Welcome to Detour Editions, publishing new writing and fresh ideas, from Australia to the world.

"I had in my mind to write three books about the world as it was, using concepts and images almost like characters. But I ended up making a long detour.” — Italian author, Roberto Calasso

Our Purpose

Sometimes the point of the journey is the detour.

Detour Editions is an independent press for books that refuse easy categories. We publish new voices and ancient wisdom—fiction, memoir, philosophy, visual art. Our titles slip between disciplines because that's where interesting things happen. That's true of our latest titles. Destinations & Detours collects new Australian writing. ,em>Shu Ha Ri,/em> explores how artists and fighters learn, mixing Japanese philosophy with images. Different books, same principle: take the unexpected turn.

You can lose yourself in a book. In one of ours, you might find your way.
